Sexy Lingerie 1923 by Stella Stewart (restored version)
Stella grew up outside Boston, though she moved to West Palm Beach at an early age. She won her first beauty pageant there, and was given a glimpse of the land of beaches and land of trump near worth avenue. She was treated to trips to Dubai, Aruba, Bermuda, Cancun, Jamaica, Cabo San Lucas, Paris and Punta Cana as well as the places in the USA such as Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Chicago, New York, Washington, Key West, Atlanta and even Niagra Falls. Her dream was to go to Los Angeles and Beverly Hills for a shot at Hollywood stardom. She wanted to go to the Ivy and see Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff, and Paris Hilton. In her first home the view was not spectacular but it did have access to the paramount, warner and nbc studios where she hoped to one day be on tv like her favorites Oprah, Regis and Kelly, Ellen Degeneres, and maybe even Dr. Phil. She did make it to Tyra Banks show as a guest. She would do endless auditions, playing cross word puzzles and solitaire while waiting to model or do a screen test. Good thing for mapquest and gps. She carried a suitcase filled with mini skirts, dresses, bikini swimsuits, high heels , boots, cocktail dresses and hats so she would always be prepared. She would audition from sunup to twilight and got enough roles to be on IMDB, though she never was on TMZ. At home she would enjoy CNN or a good video game of football, baseball, watch NASCAR or even play Guitar Hero. It is all paying off because Stella Stewart is the most popular celeb on Youtube who has NEVER been featured. She is currently signed for two pilots this season, and two films, one just after the next chinese new year. You can download some of her videos on your iphone, or view her flickr on your blackberry storm. You can write her on her web site, or try to find her on white pages, yellow pages or google her. look for her driving around town in her mustang gt or mercedes (though she may get the new camaro or challenger). Watch for her at the circus, the mall or taking in a local high school musical production. The secret of bumping into her is to not look in bars or clubs, but everyday shopping and entertainment places. You won't find her on match.com, facebook, myspace or aim, but go to a local museau and bingo, there she may be checking out the Picasso or other fine works or art.

Happy trails through BDP catalog
Please spend some time getting to know the Benjy Davis Project.
Long time mainstay of the college and festival circuit, this southern new country/rock outfit share a few tracks each from some of their recent recordings, Lost Souls Like Us (2010), Dust (2009), Angie House (2005) and More Than Local (2004) together with one new track, "Raining In Me." Davis songs groove along with catchy riffs and smart, memorable lyrics. Other reviewers have likened him to Jason Mraz and I find influences including Elvis Costello and John Mayer. These recordings are of high quality. He's touring through the summer of 2010 - check him out.
P.S. You also can get a free BDP track on the "Songs From Hotel Carolina 2010" Amazon compilation. The track is "Bite My Tongue", originally from Lost Souls Like Us.
Great Acoustic Rock
I haven't enjoyed a new album so much in a long time. The Benjy Davis Project does acoustic rock that is bright, a little edgy, and avoids the whining that so many contemporary performers feel is important. This is not an "unplugged" album, but it definitely features acoustic instrumentation. These guys can play a mean guitar. I downloaded this for free--which is a great deal, but now that I'm wearing down that portion of my hard drive that stores these tracks, I look forward to purchasing other Benjy Davis Project music.
Awesome AND free?!
What a great album. The songs are fresh with a nice balance of varied moods across tracks. I think I may have just found a new band to follow. Seriously, you would be a fool to not check out this dynamic duo- especially since it's FREE. I guarantee you that this is the only time you will get to hear their music at this price.

Taio's summer tune!
Really good tune for summer 2010. It's one of them songs that you're not too sure about the first time you listen to it but after you've heard it a couple of times you will love it. Reminds me of summer and holidays, i think its gunna be a big tune in the clubs this summer, not sure if its one of his best but it's defo a nice, feel good tune which makes you wanna get up and dance!
ehh...
this wasn't what i expected from hearing the sample. the chorus was pretty catchy but other then that, i wasn't impressed. this song isn't as good as his first song, break your heart. its not one of my favorites but i don't hate it. definately not something i would keep replaying
Good Chorus
This song will probably be a huge hit this summer and possibly the rest of the year; it has a really good hook, and even though it sounds like a stereotypical pop song, which most songs do nowadays, it's still a good song that follows up well on Cruz's "Break Your Heart", which was amazing. Overall a good song, but if you don't like pop songs that much or you didn't enjoy Cruz's last song, you might want to keep away. I personally bought it, because I cannot stop listening to it.
2010 SideOneDummy Records Summer Sampler
Customer Reviews
First Rate Sampler!
Grab this one, folks. This sampler is going to cost me some money because some of the artists are now necessary summer listening for me. I checked out all the bands and, by way of gratitude to Side One Dummy and Amazon, I'll pass it on:
1. "Requiem For A Dying Song" by Flogging Molly, the great Celtic punk rock band. This is from their "Live At The Greek Theatre" album released March 2010. A rollicking start for this great sampler.
2. "The Spirit Of Jazz" by folk-punk rockers The Gaslight Anthem from American Slang released June 2010. This month's Uncut Magazine gave this album 5 stars and declared it their album of the month. Big Cheese also gave it 5 stars.
3. "Lightning In A Bottle" by Audra Mae from her debut album "The Happiest Lamb" released May 2010. This folk rocker is the great-niece of Judy Garland and has definitely inherited the family's amazing chops. This album will be my first purchase from this sampler.
4. "Clap Your Hands" by The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band", a rural blues band that calls Indiana home. This song is from "The Wages" released May 25, 2010 and immediately charting at #2 on Billboard's Blues Chart.
5. "Love It To Life" by Jesse Malin And The St. Mark's Social Disco Ghetto from "Love It To Life", their April 2010 Side One Dummy debut. Jesse Malin is a veteran punk rocker whose former bands were Heart Attack and D Generation. Seems he collaborates with Ryan Adams and has been compared to Bruce Springsteen.
6. "The Trench" by the exceptional indie rocker Chuck Ragan. This is from 2009's "Gold Country". Amazon has already gifted us with "Rotterdam" from that album. I love both songs and will purchase the album.
7. "Salt And Sand" from "White Rabbit", an independent project of Flogging Molly bassist Nathen Maxwell and The Original Bunny Gang. This folk rock song is melodic and beautiful.
8. "Heart BPM" by folk-punk rockers Fake Problems from "It's Great To Be Alive".
9. "The System" by The Black Pacific with vocalist/guitarist Jim Lindberg from the band's self-titled album to be released in September.
10. "We Are The One" by Anti-Flag from the punk-rock album "The People Or The Gun".
11. "We Are All We Have" by hardcore street punk-rockers The Casualties.
12. "Basement Royalty" by Broadway Calls on their punk-rock album "Good Views, Bad News".
13. "Describing The Sky" by Big D And The Kids Table, from this third wave ska band's "Fluent In Stroll" which is said to refer to the band's musical direction to ska, reggae, and soul.
Enjoy!
The Gateway Drug, if you're addicted to great music
Every once in a while, a record label comes along that transcends the sum of its parts. Curated by people with such passion for finding and promoting good music, you can make a safe bet on buying an album from a band for no other reason than they're on the label. The 2010 Side One Dummy sampler takes a proud place on my (virtual) mantle, alongside the all time greats: Sire's "Just Say..." series; Yep Rock's and Fat Wreck Chords' annual samplers and Hellcat's "Give Em' The Boot" series. A good sampler plays like a solid, cohesive album - but then whets your appetite for more. I highly suggest you pick this one up and discover some truly amazing artists - the styles are varied but the passion each artist puts into every delicious note remains the same.
Would love this but the usual music discrimination is in place!!
As usual I am being punished for not living in America! This is not available in the UK.
Nat Geo Amazon Sampler
Customer Reviews
Good world music, even if it is from the US and Europe
This MP3 set brings together two songs each from five bands on the National Geographic label. If you didn't know National Geographic had a label, get in line. I'm sure there are plenty of us out there. But judging by this sampler, they are doing some good stuff -- except for the first track, which in my view is really pretty bad.
The main nit I would pick is that the label seems to be positioning itself in "world music", but the bands here are all strictly rich-world groups -- based in places like Paris, New York or Madrid. No Africa- or South America-based music here. That being said, the bands here are all good at bringing a fusion of "world music" sensibilities with US or European tastes and production values.
The first two songs are from Bibi Tanga and the Selenites, who are based in Paris, although Bibi Tanga is from Bangui in the Central African Republic. The band says of itself that it is attracted to "groove in all its shapes". But judging by the first track, some shapes might be better left alone. It sounded, to my admittedly old-fashioned tastes, like a bad disco nightmare, a bad Rick James knockoff, sung in a falsetto à la Eddie Murphy's "Roxanne" in "48 Hours". The second track is a great improvement -- the falsetto is still there, but it works much better.
The second two tracks are by DePedro, a Madrid-based band -- which you can hear in their in their Spanish accents when they sing. For my tastes, these are the best songs on the collection. The first, "Comanche" has great slide guitar riffs and a funky rhythm, while the second is good laid back track with xylophone and a banjo riff to kick off. The band's lyrics are really pretty good and add to the music.
Next up, Grupo Fantasma is a US-based Latin orchestra that gets good reviews for its tight arrangements and playing. The sound has a modernized Latin orchestral sound with strong guitars giving an American feel. A little like Tito Puente meets Santana. Nice stuff, but right now I'm not concentrating on Latin orchestral music. If you are, you should hear these guys.
Balkan Beat Box is a New York-based band that also has roots in Tel Aviv. It was founded by Tamir Muskat, formerly of Gogol Bordello, and Ori Kaplan, formerly of Firewater and bringing a background in klezmer clarinet. MC Tomer Yosef is also key to the sound. Their music is sometimes called gypsy punk, and there is a definite Balkan/gypsy feeling. But there are strong dance beats and rapping, as well as influences from around the Mediterranean. This is club music with a more inclusive and informed musical sensibility than a lot of the other stuff out there. Not my cup of tea, but for its genre it seems a cut above.
The set closes out with two tracks from Forro in the Dark, a group of Brazilians who got together to make music in New York. The music has a lot of Brazilian-inspired, but Americanized rhythms. I enjoyed the cuts here. David Byrne has recorded with them, so they have certainly reached a certain level of street cred. The first cut is a rocker, relatively speaking, and the second a rousing instrumental with a flute lead.
Overall this music is definitely worth a listen. I might even consider buying something by DePedro later on. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a lot of people with different tastes and interests than mine are inspired to check out the other bands here. Good stuff!
California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg)
Customer Reviews
Gurls Out
There is no question that there can sometimes be too much of an artist with the same sound. For Katy Perry, she just doesn't seem to showcase anything but being a "sex kitten" image. With her engagement to crude U.K. comic Russell Brand, and her personal life in a upswing, she just doesn't seem to showcase that in her sound though. Her latest single California Gurls, really just doesn't feel like she has a strong vibe here. It feels like a rehashing of her breakthrough when she came out with I Kissed A Girl a couple of years ago. Hopefully she will try and do a better sound for herself for her next single, and her next album. She really needs it, because she can't be too much of the same singer, all the same time.
Song: D+
Pure Undiluted Poison
Words cannot express how I feel about Katy Perry and this song in particular. Ever since she started getting radio play, I've wanted to jam a screwdriver in my ear. This latest song, which is easily the worst track of the year, cannot disappear fast enough. It's manufactured to where even if you hear a couple seconds of it, you're doomed to have its evil awfulness latched into your brain on an infinite torturous loop until you either kill yourself or find a way to erase your mind. Some are foolish enough to listen to this garbage on purpose, thinking that they actually like it, which many of us know is not the case. In reality, it's the result of a pact between the record company and what I can only imagine is Satan herself. Just like the Black Eyed Peas recent turn to the dark side, such songs are impossible to avoid right now, appearing literally everywhere, ready to ruin your day at every turn. They're infused with an artificial sense of sugary estrogen cheerfulness that masquerades as real, intending to come off as a happy girl singing her happy little songs. Makes me want to put a gun in my mouth. And wanting that is very much the opposite of joy.
Even more insidious, they throw Snoop Dogg in here as an effort to reel in proper music fans, and this fool goes with it just because it's a song about California (and it gives him enough money to buy the ganja tree). Snoop is able to just smoke a blunt and forget all about it, but many of us don't have that luxury. I weep for all the blonds out there with enough carbon monoxide in their heads to buy this god-awful abomination. You're driving the men around you crazy and we'll have none of it. And despite being all about sex and only sex, I can't think of anything that makes my popsicle want to melt and fall off more. This song makes my balls shrink. DO NOT WANT.
Great song
As an adult I love this song, it is very catchy and it seems like Katy Perry has some fun songs, but as a mom, not the greatest song for kids. I didn't realize some of the words that were in it, particularly "Sex on the Beach". This was the song my 11 year old asked for on her MP3. I know you can't keep things from them forever, but not quite the words I would like her to be singing all the time.
Jealous Again From Silver Arrow Records
Customer Reviews
Reminiscent of early Stones
I have to admit that in my five decades of being an adult I have never been in a smoky bar in Detroit (and in fact, a long time since I have seen a smoky bar anywhere) but I believe The Truth was a bit harsh about this cut. I liked it; it reminded me of some early Rolling Stones, e.g. Beast of Burden (1978), laced with some Eric Clapton, e.g. Cocaine (1977), and one can't very well argue with those successes.
Oh to be 'Jealous Again'
While I don't know the backstory behind this version of The Crowes' seminal 1990 song, it's still an interesting and worthwhile reinterpretation of the original studio release from 20(!) years ago (has it REALLY been that long already?). I do agree to a point with the first reviewer; the audio quality of this recording is--put politely--challenged, lending a quality more in line with a bootleg...or studio demo. But that's not really the point; more that this version is a reinterpretation of the more well-known, two decades old version from 'Shake Your Money Maker'. Whether recorded recently or somewhere along the 'ride' between then and now, for the price of entry (free, at the time of this review) this slightly more laid back version extremely hard to knock. No this recording is perhaps not as polished as the original, but the acoustical guitar intro is a nice counter to the electric original, and Chris Robinson's voice has never been stronger.
The only letdown is the quality of the recording within this MP3 file. Even my aged and well-traveled ears could appreciate a cleaner cut. But if you listen beyond the recording issues you'll find a worthwhile add for any Crowes fan, and a solid introduction for anyone not previously familiar to this classic southern American rock n' roll band. I believe a British mag once labeled The Black Crowes "the most rock n' roll Rock n' Roll band on Earth" (or something like that), and frankly this little gem of a performance does absolutely nothing to diminish that. Rock on, people.
Black Eye for this Black Crow
If this is a preemptive to the rest of the album, then the whole album must suck. This was not a good song. It sounds like they are in the back corner of some smoky bar in Detroit, wrapping up a sleepy night. The nearly non existent crowd sit lazily in their bar chairs, waiting to finish their last drink.
Rhythms were bad, and no cohesiveness to the mixes and runs.

I got this song for free but it is not really my style. But in general it is an ok song. I'm sure other people who enjoy these people would appreciate it a lot more.
Here comes junior
Wow, does Liam Finn ever sound like his dad. I wonder if that's how his voice comes out naturally or if he adopted it from hearing so much Crowded House while growing up.
Regardless, this is a not bad track. It is simplistic, but strong and over before you know it. It's inevitable to compare him to father Neil, so I'll just go ahead and do it: he doesn't quite have the John Lennon touch of dear old dad, but I say who cares. He's still pretty young, so there is room for improvement.
That said, I'm still curious to check out the EP from which this song comes. Let's hear it for free mp3s from Amazon

Hey, Soul Sister From Columbia
Customer Reviews
Hey, Train's Back
As a Train fan, I've waited awhile for this song. While it demonstrates more development of the band that is now three very talented men, it is a beautiful blend of the past, early Train with the more recent evolution of the band on "For Me, It's You." Coupled with a fantastic mandolin part and Pat's crystal clear vocals, the song has much replayability and will grow on you the more you hear it - and it will be stuck in your head for days!
Well worth the download and well worth the look at the new album on October 27.
Fantastic!
This song is the perfect combination of good lyrics, great instruments, and a singer who can actually pull off the vocals necessary to make it work. It might not appeal so much to die-hard Train fans as it's quite a departure from the style of their earlier works, but it's a fun, uplifting song and definitely worth the download.
Fun, catchy tune!
Train has been around for a long time. While never being a favorite of mine, this song, "Hey, Soul Sister," has an incredibly catchy tune.
Great for a few fun listens, but probably never a future classic.
Princess From Wuli Records

A perfect intro to LeeDeWyze's pre Idol style
After I heard Lee sing on AI, I started to hear about albums he'd recorded pre Idol, and this was the song most people recommended. I downloaded it and am completely impressed by Lee's style. This song is beautifully haunting, and his picturesque words plus the catchy hook make this a must have.
Don't be fooled by Lee's AI appearances; this is who he is as an artist, and although AI gave him a platfrom, recognition and polish, Lee knows who he is and his entire album Slumberland will make you anticipate his future recordings.
Love This One
For anyone coming to Lee DeWyze from AI I would recommend the "Reprise" version of Princess, also offered here on Amazon. He rocks out that version making it more recognizeable to Idol fans.
That being said this is now one of my favorite songs from Lee's Slumberland album. I will admit that it took me a couple of listens to switch gears from the Lee DeWyze I watched on AI to this more mellow Lee DeWyze. Now I love them both! Whatever it is about Lee's voice that has grabbed me shines through either way.
I've been listening non stop to Slumberland and So I'm Told for a couple of weeks now along with all of his Idol songs. There is an addictive quality to Lee DeWyze's voice, no matter which "style" he's singing in.
Also check out YouTube to see more of the rocked out versions of Lee DeWyze's own songs, pre Idol.

Usher Is Back!
Although some would argue that he never left, Usher is DEFINIETLY back with his new album. This is one of the pearls from it. This jam, OMG, will be sure to be heard in clubs across the world for the next few months. I would equate this song to a present-day "Yeah." It'll take a while to catch on though. I absolutely love this song! And I hope that you will, as well!
Usher Eyed Peas
There is no question that Usher had undergone a lot of strife the past few years from his marriage to Tameka Foster ending, to him losing his idol Michael Jackson and singing with grief at his memorial service, to the less-than-dynamic reaction to his tracks from his latest album Raymond Vs. Raymond from his earlier singles like Papers and There Goes My Baby. Nevertheless, he is still trying to make it all his own, and his latest single O.M.G. which he teams up with Will.I.Am. from The Black Eyed Peas feel like Usher is trying to spike up the magic The Black Eyed Peas caught last year with I've Gotta Felling. It sadly feels like it is a less than strength that should be strong for Usher to deliver. I wasn't very surprised with the song, it felt like it was watered down and less than organic for his calibur. Usher should try and show his rhythm to a better crowd that feels like his own and not a mimic, and that is not a confession.

California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) From Capitol
Customer Reviews
Prove Her Wrong!
Wow. Thank you, Katy.
I had been complaining about Lady Gaga getting undeserved praise, but you've returned to remind me that things can be so much worse than copying Madonna and Ace of Base.
Gaga might be dull, but it seems that she enjoys what she does. "California Gurls" reinforces that Katy Perry is just doing whatever it takes to make a buck, including a poorly manufactured "summer anthem" for kiddies to blast through their range rovers while heading to the beach. One that sounds conspicuously like a sunny Miley Cyrus anthem for the Ke$ha demographic. One that, despite obvious employment of voice correction software, boasts singing that sounds like a poodle being stepped on. Oh, yeah, and it's sexy too, don't forget that. OH, and there's Snoop Dogg there for street cred! Quite a package, right? Maybe the Dogg and poodle parallel is intentional?
Hey, I like plenty of dumb, fun anthems too--and there's nothing wrong with making a profit--but this is crass marketing at its worst. It's like the ads for all of those stupid toy products marketed to kids as the second coming of Christ (like the Skip-It and that ridiculous colored sand). It shows a brazen contempt for its audience that rivals the late 90's teen pop explosion
Of course, if you didn't see the cynicism in those acts either, chances are you'll LOVE this new product by Katy Perry! Buy now while supplies last!
Summer stars NOW
Just when you thought she was done kissing girls, Katy is back with another soon to be chart-topper! This song catches the essence of summer in so many ways and gets you in the mood to put on some sunblock and cherry chapstick, grab a towel and head down to the beach. There's now denying how catchy it is. Download it and it'll be on repeat all summer long, or during those seasons when you wish it was summer! Video with lyrics here: [...]

Blah Blah Blah [Explicit] From RCA Records Label
Customer Reviews
Blatantly blunt & a blast!!
This is a fun, light-hearted funny tune that is intended for adults only. She is a 22 year old singer-songwriter that speaks her mind. The whole CD is phenomenal along with her more than 2 dozen demo songs that never made the CD. Just to let know I'm just a fan since the beginning of the month. I don't know her personally nor do I endorse her in any way. I just am so happy an artist has come along that is speaking her mind for fun. With some titles like (F*** Him)He's a DJ, Former Over-Exposed Blonde, Dinosaur (referring to an old man hitting on her), Paris Hilton's Closet, and Friday Night Bit** Fight, she is just for fun and fluff. She's a mesh of Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, & Kelly Clarkson. Give her a chance. She manipulates her voice perfectly for the needed tone of each song. She writes her own material. She is honest & young. This song in particular is my favorite. Lyrically, musically, vocally, and subject wise it's so fun. It's my current favorite song out of all 56 songs I've heard by her.
An Incredibly Likable Record:
It amazed me that TIK TOK managed to somehow find its way to #1, but I will be honestly surprised if BLAH fails to ring the bell in short order as well: a MUCH stronger single, BLAH clocks in at 2:52, making it the current go-to record at radio for the "12 songs an hour" nonsense currently being run at clear-channel affiliates -- shorter songs do equal more commercials within the context of such radio promos, and we all know how CC feels about that concept.
BLAH feels, musically, like a L'Trimm/Lady Gaga mash-up; lyrically it's Salt-n-Pepa with a side of Lil' Kim. The hooks are plenty: a chirping keyboard (which is, itself, essentially the entire chord structure) feels like a lighter version of what pushed Buffalo Stance; the chorus itself is hooky in a way that I can't quite put my finger on (I suspect it's an interplay between various recording levels). It's really, REALLY well done, and is a profoundly likable record.
As a result of TIK TOK and BLAH, Ke$ha is now, essentially, the queen of white Female rap: it's a position achieved by default, however, and her sophomore album will have to be MUCH stronger than her first effort here -- if Ke$ha expects to make a career out of this. Even if BLAH does hit #1 -- a feat which will give her two #1's in a row -- I strongly suspect that Ke$ha will end-up being another forgotten name in the annals of pop. The brightest flames DO burn the quickest.
For now, though, BLAH is the perfect record for Ke$ha: an exceptionally strong follow-up to TIK TOK, radio-friendly in both length and sound, risque enough lyrically to generate buzz, with MASSIVE ringtone & remix potential.
Ke$ha, seriously: save some money.
It's a quick ride.
Better than tik tok
I wasn't a big fan of Tik Tok, but I really like this song. It's very catchy and most people hate it because it uses auto-tone, but I don't really mind it. Definitely her best song

TiK ToK From RCA Records Label
Customer Reviews
She's got diamonds on the soles of her feet, and dollar signs in her eyes
Ke$ha's monetary moniker is fitting. She's in it for the cash, some brief fame--she's the hardy partying equivalent to Taylor Swift, she eerily resembles Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical (Encore Edition) and her sound is the blander version of Lady GaGa. Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" is NOT named for the Oz character. While the chorus is guilty pleasure bubblegum pop with loads of auto-tune, the song itself is forgettable and repetitive. It does work for a throbbing night club, but beyond that--it's dull. "Tik Tok" will put you to sleep. In fact, her music video for this song so much echoes Lady GaGa's Just Dance that it opens with her in a bathtub. Yes,this is Lady GaGa's High School Musical equivalent.
So terrible.
I honestly do not get why this song is so popular. She can't sing at all, the lyrics are beyond inane, the vocoder is irritating. Everything about it is grating and horrible. If this is the future of music, I'm going to stop listening to the radio now. I can't imagine anything worse than this. Whoever signed her to a record label should be covering their face in shame and embarrassment.
some catchy hooks but it's still terrible
My wife made me download this song, complaining that I don't have enough "new" music (I'm a classic rock fan - Floyd, Zeppelin, etc.) This is just another classic example of why current music is in the toilet. The song has a few catchy hooks, but the vocals are weak, the lyrics inane, and the singer appears to be someone they dragged off of a pole at the Cheetah Club and forced to record a song.
Thank God I was a child of the 70's and was exposed to decent music. This song makes me weep for the future. Kids, please go buy a copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" or "Abbey Road" instead of this.
Save Me, San Francisco From Columbia
Customer Reviews
Love This Album!!
Train is back! This record really captures a great mix of their old sounds AND new styles. Songs like "Breakfast in Bed", "Marry Me" and "You Already Know" really give off the old 'Train' CD vibe and then those like "I Got You" and "Brick By Brick" show more of the 'My Private Nation' and 'For Me, It's You' sound. There are a few tracks that sound similar to Pat's solo record but that doesn't mean that those songs aren't memorable! Overall. I was very pleased listening to the new one and after a 3 year gap, this is a very redeemable disc that should put Train back on the map! 5 stars!
Best album since Drops of Jupiter
Don't get me wrong, I love all of Train's albums. Maybe a few more than others. There were some great songs on the past two, My Private Nation and For Me It's You, but I felt like both albums were over-produced and lacked that unique sound that was so amazing on the first two albums. Their debut album and Drops of Jupiter had, for lack of a better term, a REAL feel. As if to say "Yeah, we're singing about this really deep stuff, but we're singing about it in a way you can really relate to." Save Me San Francisco returns us to that frame of reference. The songs are witty, sometimes fun and sometimes moving (and sometimes both), and Monahan's vocal performance is more incredible than ever. A few of my personal favorites are "Parachute", "This Ain't Goodbye", and "Marry Me". "I Got You" has a rockin mash-up of The Doobie Brothers' "Black Water". The first single, "Hey, Soul Sister" is more for the mainstream radio audience, but still enjoyable. Conclusion: True Train fans are going to be pleasantly surprised! I will be listening to this non-stop for the next few months.
Modern poetry that rocks!!
Train is definitely back; Save Me, San Francisco is amazing and showcases Patrick Monahan's amazing, distinctive voice! Love the energy and heartfelt lyrics including the title track, Soul Sister and Marry Me! Can't wait to see these guys again live!!!

Lady A Does It Again!
Normally the idea of a ballad being a kick off to a new CD is not what I am used to sure some singers do it and it does really well point in case this song. Lady Antebellum really shows that there still going strong with this kick off to their new CD due out next year. Hillary Scott & Charles Kelly who sing the main leads on this song are a dream duo and their vocals really shine on this their harmonies are fantastic. It's a song of a love lost and with a chorus like this:
It's a quarter after I'm all alone I need you now,
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control but I need you now
And I don't know how I could do without but I need you now
You really can't go wrong it really sums up the whole song.
Overall and in my opinion Lady A is back and better than ever if you liked their first CD you won't be disappointed with this song at all.
Blown Away By This Song
I had heard the name Lady Antebellum and had heard a song here and there. Thought they were okay, but nothing that really captured my attention. That was until this past week when I was listing to the top 100 songs at a download site.
And wow, just wow!
I was blown away by this song. From its simple piano opening to its simple straightforward lyrics, the song just conveys an amazing amount of passion and longing. And the guy who sings the lead has an awesome voice. I look forward to discovering more about this group.
Amazing Song
I liked Lady Antebellum until I heard this song. I love this song! It is now of my favorite songs. A great country ballad. If you are not looking for a longing love song it might not be for you, although I wasn't when I first heard it.
Nothing But The Best [The Frank Sinatra Collection] From Frank Sinatra Enterprises

A Superb If Incomplete Introduction To The Reprise Years.
I'll be honest. When I first heard about this cd through The Sinatra Family Forums back in February, I was ready to tear it to shreds. I thought to myself, "Frank's gone 10 years now, and they're marking the event with yet another compilation with same songs repackaged for the umpteenth time?" Even when it was announced that the songs were to be digitally remastered and a never before released bonus track was to be included, my anger and resentment towards this compilation still stuck.
However, as the release date grew nearer and I got word from several people who were able to hear it before it officially hit the market told me it was totally worth it, I slowly warmed up to it and by last week was all set on buying it.
When I received the cd this afternoon, I was extremely excited, even though I thought myself, "I heard these songs thousands of time before." The first thing that struck me was how beautiful the packaging was: the cd comes in a cardboard case with one of the best pictures of Frank ever taken. The cd's booklet is made from a elegant, smooth velvet like material and the liner notes by Charles Pignone as well as the various rare photos of Frank at work are excellent. Honestly, the packaging alone is enough to grab your attention.
But enough about the artwork. What about the music?
As stated already, my biggest concern with this collection was that I heard all these songs before. I had already received the mammoth "Complete Reprise Studio Recordings" boxed set, which had all these songs (except one) as well as over 400 additional tracks, all of which featured more than satisfactory sound quality. Still, undaunted, I popped the cd onto my Ipod and went for a listen.
Needless to say, I was blown away.
The sound quality is INCREDIBLE. To hear the opening notes of "Come Fly With Me" bristle with sharpness and clarity is in itself a major thrill, and to hear Frank's voice with such depth and range only adds to the fun.
Seriously, there were parts of certain songs I never noticed before. Listen to how beautiful the harp sounds on "Bewitched" (remastered from the original 35MM tapes) or how sharp and clear Count Basie's classic piano ticklings on the intro to "The Best Is Yet To Come" sound, or how fresh and powerful the horns on "New York, New York" blaze through the speakers. Sonically, the album is as close to flawless as humanly possible.
Furthermore, knowing that many fans would be concerned with the whole "I've heard these songs before" stigma, the producers included several little bonuses on certain songs to surprise faithful listeners:
(WARNING: If you don't me to spoil these surprises, skip this section!)
-The tag on "Come Fly With Me" has been changed from "And don't tell your momma" to another line from an alternate take, "Pack a small bag."
-Though sources say otherwise , "The Best Is Yet To Come" seems to be a different mix (possibly spliced together from another take). Listen to how Frank phrases "Come the day you're mine" on the bridge, it's different from previous releases.
-"Strangers In The Night" is extended, with a few more "Do be do be do's."
But the real surprise, however, is the never before released track. "Body And Soul," an old standad Frank first recored for Columbia in 1947, dates back to the "L.A. Is My Lady" sessions in 1984 with Quincy Jones. For whatever reason, Frank was dissatisfied with the initial take on the song, and left it off the album.
24 years later, however, Frank Sinatra Jr. dusted off Frank's vocal track, removed Jones' arrangement, and instead recorded a new orchestral backing that fits the song beautifully. Listening to this new majestic chart for the song, you'd never guess it was initially planned for the overly produced "L.A. Is My Lady" (a potential masterpiece marred by too many slick, 1980s' style production values). It sounds like it was supposed to be on "Sinatra & Strings."
And if the orchestration isn't enough, what about The Man himself? Here's Frank, in the autumn of his years, still better than anyone around, punching out a timeless stanard with the same passion and fury that permeated through his most beloved recordings. It is a truly tour de force performance that was worth the wait.
For all the pros for "Nothing But The Best," there are, however a few cons. My main gripe, and it might be asking for a bit too much, is that it could've been two discs. There are a lot of Frank's best recordings from the Reprise era missing, such as "In The Still Of The Night," "The Coffee Song," "You're Nobody 'Till Somebody Loes You," "Come Rain Or Come Shine," (or anything from "Sinatra & Strings," which is undeservedly snubbed), "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "Ol' Man River," (arguably his best recording ever), "I Have Dreamed," "Soliloquy," "All Or Nothing At All," (either the 1961 ballad rendition or the thrilling 1966 swing version would have sufficed) and many others could've been included, to give the cd a bit more diversity instead of the typical hits. Also, while they were arguably done better in their initial Capitol incarnations, his redoings of "I Get A Kick Out Of You," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "All The Way," "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning," "How Little We Know," and others are still excellent renditions and are worth including.
But in the end, this nitpicking adds little. The fact of the matter "Nothing But The Best" is still an excellent compilation with unbeatable sound with 22 songs ung by the greatest singer popular music has ever heard.
Several tracks contain some seriously misguided remixing attempts
I'm really surprised at all the five star reviews posted here and especially taken aback at the raves about the sound quality. I was looking forward to this disc because Sinatra's Reprise catalog has never sounded as good as it should on CD and once I saw the track listing for this disc, and assumed that it would be mastered properly, I knew it was something I wanted to buy the day it hit the shelves. A lot of the tracks do sound better than ever and the most glorious example of sonic improvement is on "Summer Wind". It's obvious that some tweaking was done on this stereo mix to improve the sound and this track really does sound incredible! But some of the remixing (which I'm assuming was done by going back to the original master tapes and making some recording soundboard adjustments) is far from an improvement to my ears. While I'm happy to have the extended fade on "Strangers In The Night", the way the tambourine has been buried in the mix makes it sound like something's missing. And holy Manhattan, what the frank happened to "New York, New York"? It sounds terrible! You can hardly tell that there was a drummer present at the recording session at all! After Frank's "A-number one" line and before the track's tempo slows and he sings, "These little town blues...", there's supposed to be a snare roll. I can't hear it at all. Why would they ruin this song by covering up the entire drum track?? It makes no sense. The power and driving energy of the arrangement has been zapped and it sounds like just another cover of an overplayed showtune (albeit one with an outstanding vocal!) So while overall this disc contains a great song selection and should be a no-brainer 5 star release, I think it's shortcomings barely qualify it for 3 stars.
certainly not all of Frank's best--but it's still all right by me !!!
Nothing But The Best is a Frank Sinatra album of just some of his best; this really can't be called a "best of" album because it has a mere twenty-two songs on it--and The Chairman certainly had more than twenty-two hits on any of his record labels! However, Frank's fans will love this album anyway; it does contain a few extra seconds here and there to capture Frank's comments. There is a very fine USPS commemorative stamp and, just as they say, there's a previously unissued rendition of "Body And Soul."
The CD starts off with Frank Sinatra performing "Come Fly With Me." "Come Fly With Me" is the perfect upbeat start to this album; and Frank's voice is in excellent form. The big band style arrangement works well for this number and it whets your appetite for more--great! Similarly, "The Way You Look Tonight" has Frank again singing at his best with a more mature voice; but yet he uses this opportunity to showcase the magnificent qualities of his voice. Frank's excellent diction and his uncanny sense of timing enhance his singing even more.
Frank gives "The Good Life" a very fine treatment and the music that accompanies him is very pretty but they never drown out Frank as he sings this very well. "The Girl From Ipanema" retains its usually bossa nova treatment but when Frank sings this you'll swear nobody could ever have sung this as well as Frank did! Frank takes ballads and puts his own stamp on them with his sublime interpretations of them; and this impresses me greatly.
"Strangers In The Night" sounds fresh and new when Frank sings this so very well; and the strings are used to great advantage. I love it! "Call Me Irresponsible" shines equally bright when Frank performs this with sensitivity; his voice remains in excellent form and it's truly a pleasure to hear him sing.
"That's Life" is actually one of my personal favorites on this CD (believe it or not); and Frank sings this with passion and all his might. The chorus that backs up Frank enhances the beauty of the number even further. Of course, "My Way" is a classic Sinatra tune; and I always love it when I hear Frank sing this. "My Way" is easily a major highlight of this album and I predict you'll enjoy this version of "My Way," too.
The theme from New York, New York gets the royal treatment from Frank Sinatra--he was born to sing songs like this! WOW! The CD also ends nicely with Frank Sinatra performing "Body And Soul;" this previously unissued interpretation of this ballad is worth the price of admission alone!
Sure, this CD contains just some of Frank's best from his later years; but I have a feeling many of his fans may want this after all. This is also a possible starter CD for newcomers to Frank's artistry and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will enjoy this as well.
